Award-profitable Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has distanced herself from the “Queen of Afrobeats” title, stressing that the worldwide success of the genre is the outcomes of collective contributions from many female artists.
Talking in an interview with Apple Music’s Ebro, Savage explained that whereas she appreciates the recognition, she feels unhappy being singled out because the sole queen of the genre.
“Yeah, they call me the Queen of Afrobeats, but there are just a few us which would be Queens,” she acknowledged.
“In my view, I don’t like that tag. It’s unhappy because if I open accepting it, I have to be humble, and secondly, it doesn’t make sense to me.”
Savage acknowledged that her pioneering role in breaking limitations for Nigerian ladies americans in tune would perhaps well private influenced the title, but she argued that it goes to aloof no longer exclude others.
