The Nigerian movie alternate, Nollywood, has been thrown into mourning following the death of current actor, Alex Ekubo.
Twinny News reports that Ekubo died on Monday evening at Evercare Sanatorium, Lekki, Lagos, after fighting liver cancer. He was once 40.
Used Tall Brother Naija superstar and Director of Communication of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Boma Akpore, confirmed the death to Vanguard on Tuesday, announcing the actor’s body had been moved to Ebony Vaults in Ikoyi.
A colleague, Godwin Nnadiekwe, also mourned the actor in an Instagram put up.
He wrote, “I’m struggling to get the phrases. This news has essentially broken me. Nollywood has misplaced a uncommon soul, and I’m misplaced for phrases because this wasn’t the belief, Alex Ekubo.”
Light filmmaker, Lancelot Imasuen, who gave Ekubo his first movie role, described the death as “devastating and implausible.”
“That was once how I gave him his first movie role that ushered him into Nollywood,” Imasuen recalled.
Following the news, tributes poured in from colleagues, celebrities and followers.
Funke Akindele recalled their bond and the nickname “Ore mi,” which Ekubo fondly called her.
Different celebrities, alongside side Bolanle Ninalowo, Peter Okoye, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Omoni Oboli, Mo Abudu, Kate Henshaw, Yvonne Jegede, Kunle Remi and Ruth Kadiri, also mourned the leisurely actor.
Human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, described Ekubo as a “uncommon expertise,” whereas broadcaster Oseni Rufai wrote, “Leisure well Alex.”
